There is a lot of code on here marked as defunct -- many of my projects have lived out their useful lives and I don't maintain them anymore, but the code is still available here incase anyone needs to do something similar and finds it useful.

Wireless

Kismet is an 802.11b sniffer and network detection which replaces PrismSnort. Far more info is available on its own site, kismetwireless.net

WlanWatcher [Defunct - No more development on this. It only worked sometimes, and only on prism2. It's kept here only as an example if someone wondered how it was done.] is a "roaming" utility which detects if you are out of contact with your current network, and automatically begins hunting for new networks for which you have a configuration.

PrismSnort [Defunct - No more development on this. It served its purpose and grew into Kismet. Go get Kismet instead.] is a combination of AirSnort and PrismDump that allows simultaneous logging of "interesting" encrypted packets for AirSnort WEP cracking, and raw packet dumping that can be loaded into Ethereal. Also supported is the execution of external commands (such as GPS loggers) when packets are detected.

GKrellPrism [Defunct - wlan-ng uses /proc/net/wireless correctly now. If someone REALLY needs this for gkrellm-2.0 let me know.] is a GKrellM plugin to monitor the link quality and speed of the Prism/2 802.11b chipset. The Prism/2 drivers (wlan-ng) do not conform to standard Linux Wireless extentions, so the normal wireless monitoring plugins will not work.

Vaio I no longer have a Vaio -- If you'd like to take over any of these projects, contact me.

GKrellM Vaio Brightness [Semi-Defunct - I no longer have a Vaio. Contact me if you'd like to take this over for any future updates.] is a GKrellM plugin to set the brightness on Vaio laptops with software-only brightness controls. [Updated: v2.5 removes the need for a secondary helper application]

JogMouse [Defunct - I no longer have a Vaio. If anyone wants to take this over, let me know, but there are a number of other tools now that didn't exist when I first wrote it, so it's less important.] allows the use of the jog dial on some Sony VAIO laptops such as the 505 or the Crusoe-powered Picturebooks, as a mouse wheel for scrolling in Linux.

Graphics

Substrate Xscreensaver Hack. Based off the visual hacks on complexification.net. As of xscreensaver 4.19 this is part of the xscreensaver distribution.

ImageMagick alpha channels. As near as I can tell, this is not documented anywhere in the IM docs. Heres a snippet of code that will let you make an image with an arbitrary alpha channel.

Misc

rif_expire is a patch to the Linux 2.4 series kernel which fixed the incorrect RIF timing. A must for laptops using tokenring, and a good idea for everyone else.

Stathosts was something I wrote in python years ago to monitor network latency. It's still kind of useful.

NoBeamHack is a hackmaster extention to the Palm Pilot that keeps it from asking you if you want to enable Beam Recieve every time you send someone a file and have it disabled.
